Enjoying the Fal River during Lockdown #2

12 November 2020

So here we find ourselves in our second National Lockdown of this year, we are a week in now with a few more to go, so we thought we would share with you some of the lovely things that you can still enjoy around the Fal River this month…

Visit Trelissick

During this uncertain time, there is certainly a feeling of great comfort in the fresh air and great outdoors. We are blessed in Cornwall with so many stretches of open and wide spaces, throw in some stunning scenery from our Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and you have the makings of a great winters day out. At the National Trust Trelissick you get to experience all of this with their dense woodlands, river views and beautiful gardens. During this lockdown Trelissick remains fully open and with all Covid safety measures in place. The parkland, garden and takeaway cafe are all open and operating on winter opening hours. It is advised that you continue to book your car parking space online in advance to avoid disappointment and please use the parkland drive as an entrance. Walks around the Headland

Something we can all continue to do and enjoy this November is walking; getting out in the outdoors and exploring our very beautiful local area. One walk in particular that is a firm Fal River favourite is the Trefusis Headland Walk. This walk showcases great views across the Carrick Roads from Flushing, taking you through the village, to Mylor Yacht Harbour around Trefusis Headland. If travelling from Falmouth why not take the Flushing Ferry across to start your walk, this is still operating during November and running to its winter timetable. If you are in Flushing and would like to explore Falmouth, take the ferry across and walk from the Prince of Wales Pier, through the town centre and towards the seafront to do the Pendennis Headland Walk. Walk around the historic Pendennis Headland where you'll be rewarded with fantastic views across Falmouth Harbour and along the Cornish coast. Don’t forget to take a pit stop at Gylly Beach Cafe and pick up a takeaway coffee or tea and something yummy to eat. With both of these walks you get the added bonus of a trip across the river also; a great chance to soak up the sea air and get a glimpse of the beautiful landscape that you will walk across when you get to the other side!

Towan Beach with The Thirstea Co Refreshments

This winter The Thirstea Co are opening long weekends Friday to Monday 10-4 and we are delighted to hear that they are continuing to do so during this lockdown period operating as take away only. With winter warmer soups and one pot lunches, teas, coffees and homemade cakes, you can really enjoy a beach run around at Towan knowing there are Thirstea goodies at the end of it!  Take the iconic King Harry Ferry across for added adventure and enjoy that beautiful crossing over the Fal River before heading towards Towan. The King Harry Ferry is currently operating its winter timetable.

Stock up with deliveries from The Old Garage

We think it’s fair to say we all need a little treat or two during these periods away from loved ones whilst staying at home, and what better than a wine and deli delivery to perk you up? The Old Garage Bottle Shop + Deli, on the Roseland Peninsula, has a wide and eclectic wine list- with approximately 80% of the bottles on the shelf unavailable elsewhere in the South West. They also have a show-stopping Deli in store, showcasing the best of Cornish produce, and beyond. The team at The Old Garage are offering a delivery and collection service during these uncertain times so that we can all continue to enjoy the little luxuries from the comfort and safety of our own home.
