With some people’s thoughts turning to Christmas and the end of the year, we compiled some festive events to get you in the mood. If it’s too soon, look at some beneficial Winter Walks to take you away from it all. Celebrate an album launch or indulge in a Murder Mystery event - there’s plenty to do this month for all tastes!

Femmes de la Mer album launch at The Poly

25th November

Femmes de la Mer are an all-female singing group from across Cornwall. Join them at The Poly in Falmouth and help them celebrate as they launch their first album, Today’s Haul. Featuring a stunning collection of songs and shanties showcasing their rich harmonies and bold interpretations of well-known traditional songs and shanties, including newly written ones celebrating the stories of Cornish women.

Makers Fairs

If you're thinking ahead to Christmas, why not visit a local Makers Fair for some handmade craft gifts, or join a workshop to make your own?!

 

Truro : 6th November - 14th December

The Makers Workshop Series in Truro can be found at the Hall for Cornwall, an exciting series of 8 workshops that run alongside the stage programme of shows. Run by expert makers and artists from across Cornwall, the sequence of events takes inspiration from and celebrates the heritage of the Hall for Cornwall building. Choose from swimming robe making to wreath making or a festive soap-making event.

  Penryn :  4th-6th November

Makers Cornwall return to Penryn on 4th-6th November with a brilliantly sparkly Christmas fair full of handmade gifts showcasing more than seventy of the best Cornish makers and designers. Work includes modern ceramics, hand-printed textiles, eco-beauty products and much more! Head to the Sports Centre, Penryn Campus and be inspired!

Philleigh Way Cookery School

  11th November

Learn, improve and master your cooking skills at the Philleigh Way Cookery School.  Their ethos is to inspire and delight and they have access to Cornwall’s freshest and finest ingredients.  If you’re a fan of the Cornish saffron bun, cinnamon swirls or croissants then their Enriched Dough course could be just for you! 

Explore the farmhouse cookery school and garden with a morning tea or coffee and treat before learning some new skills. The course includes four demonstrations, three practical sessions and a glass of wine with a delicious lunch.

Monsters of the Deep at the National Maritime Museum

What lies beneath? Legends, folklore and modern-day science combine to present Monsters of the Deep, a show packed with marvels. From a terrifying Feegee mermaid to the spindly legs of a giant sea spider, there are plenty of strange and beautiful things to see in this exciting exhibition. Explore the centuries-old myths and legends when chance sightings and odd appearances led to tall tales of deep sea creatures. Progress to the modern day to discover how today's scientists explore the seas aboard submersibles, going deeper and further into unknown waters.

Murder Mystery Event at The Greenbank Hotel

  17th November

Immerse yourself in a world of Edwardian elegance and step aboard the RMS Titanic for an evening of fine dining, fizz and foot-stomping fun at The Greenbank Hotel. Enter the grand Riverbank suite in your finest attire for a glass of bubbles whilst a string quartet plays, then take your seats for a three-course meal inspired by the era.

As the White Star liner RMS Titanic cuts its way through the cold grey waters of the North Atlantic, the rich and famous enjoy the luxurious surroundings of the liner’s first-class restaurant. But all is not calm on the high seas. Watch as mystery and intrigue begins to surface in connection with a well-known aristocrat among the First class passengers. Listen closely as the questions and allegations, followed by threats, eventually end in a murder…

Revel in the mystery of the evening while enjoying your Titanic-themed menu designed by Executive Chef Nick Hodges.

Winter Walks

 

The benefits of walking in nature are well-known, but did you know that walking in the winter is also great for our well-being and health?

Not only do you burn more calories in colder weather, your heart has to pump faster and the invigorating fresh air helps to clear your mind.  Put your boots on, get together with friends and loved ones and treat yourself this winter to a revitalising walk!  Take advantage of the St Mawes Ferry and walk around the St Mawes Headland, taking in the views from St Mawes Castle, or hop on the King Harry Ferry and discover the Roseland Peninsula!

Christmas Lights

Get into the festive spirit and enjoy community fun at a Christmas lights switch-on!

Truro : 18th November

Truro’s Christmas celebrations start with Festive Friday and the Christmas Lights switch on. With plenty of events throughout the day, festive workshops, market stalls full of Christmas wares, on stage entertainment and a Christmas parade there is fun to be had for all the family.

Falmouth : 24th November

Celebrations include a wonderful parade through the town from Events Square to The Moor, a visit from Father Christmas, a carol concert, live music and entertainment from Pirate FM.  Lights will be switched on at 7pm and promises to be a very special event.
