St Just-in-Roseland Church and Gardens
Discover the Natural Beauty of St Just-in-Roseland Church Gardens.
A haven where tropical plants flourish. Nestled in a secluded valley, St Just-in-Roseland Churchyard and Gardens is a stunning testament to nature's beauty. H.V. Morton captured its essence describing it as “a Garden of Eden that cannot be described in pen or paint. There is a degree of beauty that flies so high that no net of words or snare of colour can hope to capture it”.
The gardens owe their charm to plant hunter J.G. Tresseder, who recognized the area’s unique micro-climate for subtropical plants. Tresseder established a nursery here in 1904, introducing exotic specimens such as tree ferns and Chusan palms. His legacy lives on, with many original plants still thriving today.
In the 1980s, further landscaping transformed the gardens into a haven of ponds and rills, adorned with camellias, magnolias, and vibrant hydrangeas. While the gardens are beautiful all year-round, they truly come alive in late spring, inviting visitors to explore this enchanting sanctuary of natural beauty.
