Guest Blog: Adventures By Bus
18 April
Embark on a journey to the edge of the (English) world!
Climb on board and get ready for an adventure on one of the UK’s most spectacular open top bus rides, highlighting rugged coastlines, mining heritage sites, harbour towns and Land’s End itself.
With so much to see and do along this route with your day ticket, here are our top picks for the perfect day on the Land’s End Coaster.
-
Starting at Penzance, there is plenty to see before we even take off. Be sure to check out the historic Chapel Street, the subtropical Morrab Gardens, the art at The Exchange Gallery, or even take a dip at the nostalgic The Jubilee Pool!
-
Hop on board at The Penzance Bus Station and prepare to be wowed as you approach Marazion and set sight on the famous St Michael’s Mount, an ancient tidal island. The Mount can be reached at low tide by the famous cobbled causeway and at high tide by a local ferry.
-
Once you have been wowed by the views, pick up the Coaster again to St Ives and take in one of the 4 main beaches within walking distance to the town. You will then be spoilt for choice to immerse yourself in art at The Tate and Barbara Hepworth Sculpture Garden - or perhaps you will prefer to spend the afternoon simply browsing the many independent shops and cafes that line the pretty streets around the harbour.
-
Once you are back on board, gulp in the sea air as you wind around the roads of Cornwall. We love stopping off at Geevor and learning history at Geevor Tin Mine. Here you can learn the story of tin mining and go underground to go back in time and discover stories about the people that worked these mines.
(Psst!... did you know you can receive 10% off admission to Geevor Tin Mine when you show your Adventures by Bus ticket on the day of travel?)
-
Now we arrive at Land’s End itself, one of Britain’s best known and most popular landmarks. Uniquely located at the most Westerly tip of Britain’s land mass, get ready for some breathtaking views inland across the moorland and out across the English Channel and Celtic Sea!
-
Once you jump back on board, we make our way to Porthcurno. Home to the world famous open-air Minack Theatre - be sure to book shows and guided tours in advance. PK Porthcurno – Museum of Global Communications is also a must see to learn how Porthcurno became host to the past, present, and future of worldwide communications.
(Psst!... did you know you can receive 10% off Food and Drink and The Minack Theatre and 50% off museum entry at PK Porthcurno when you show your Adventures by Bus ticket on the day of travel?)

The final stop before returning to Penzance is the seaside town and fishing port of Newlyn. We recommend a visit to the Newlyn Art Gallery as it often hosts events, exhibitions, and workshops. If you enjoy walking, the Gallery is a wonderful place to start a Coastal walk all the way to Mousehole which is yet another picturesque fishing port of Cornwall.
