A Wild Cornish Future at Cornwall Museum and Art Gallery
17 April
Go wild for nature at Cornwall Museum and Art Gallery
In celebration of the opening of the new Nature Gallery and Kurt Jackson’s Biodiversity exhibition, an evening of discussion and debate about the future of Cornwall’s unique ecosystem is taking place at the Cornwall Museum and Art Gallery in Truro.
On 17th April they’re hosting a conversation between Devon-based nature writer Sophie Pavelle and climate researcher Dr. Mark Wilson from the University of Bath. Tickets to attend are available here.
The dialogue has been prompted by the creation of the reimagined Nature Gallery in collaboration with Cornwall Wildlife Trust; here climate, biodiversity, human impact and conservation are seen through a Cornish lens.
Guests will have the opportunity to explore the gallery in depth as well as see the rest of the museum, which reopened on 1st March following a £2.3m investment from Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Good Growth Programme via the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund.
One of our opening exhibitions is Kurt Jackson’s Biodiversity, in which the artist opens windows onto different locations across the UK and explores the spectrum of plant and animal life found there; it is surrounded by these impactful paintings, sculptures, and mixed media works that the discussion between Sophie and Mark will take place.
The event is a collaboration with Agile Rabbit, a charity which promotes the values of curiosity, creativity, openness, balance, inclusivity, and engagement.
Anna-Laila Jost, Events and Engagement Officer at Agile Rabbit, said:
“Encircled by a rugged coastline, Cornwall is a haven for woodlands and wildlife, and these natural assets attract us – humans – to live, work, and play here. Amidst the abundance of stunning landscapes and rich biodiversity, there are also signs of change on the horizon, with global temperatures increasing year after year. This discussion will ask, how is the Cornish ecosystem responding?”
