Tregony Contemporary presents Mark Dunford LG

Tregony Contemporary is thrilled to present ‘In Situ’, a new exhibition of paintings by acclaimed artist Mark Dunford LG. This exhibition is Dunford’s second solo show with the gallery, offering a profound exploration of place, presence, and observation.

The title ‘In Situ’ – refers to 'in place' or 'in the natural or original position' which reflects Dunford’s approach to capturing the essence of his surroundings. Drawing on recent works created since 2021 and reflecting his evolving practice, the artist explores the tension between the seen and the felt, grounding abstract dynamism in moments of stillness and light.

Mark Dunford studied at Bournemouth and Poole College of Art and Design and The Slade School of Fine Art, UCL, where he worked in the 'F' studios run by renowned artists including Euan Uglow and Patrick George. His achievements include the Robert Ross Scholarship and the Richard Ford Award and he was elected a member of The London Group in 2001. Mark’s work has been exhibited widely across the UK, Europe, and the USA, with paintings held in collections worldwide. He is represented by Tregony Contemporary and Browse and Darby in London. Mark moved to Cornwall is 2005 where he continues to paint and live.

To mark ‘In Situ’ the gallery is relaunching a revised and expanded version of the monograph, 'Mark Dunford: Into the Light', which was first published in 2021. This updated edition includes a deeper perspective on Dunford’s artistic journey, with new works illustrated, showcasing his dedication to capturing moments of presence through painting. The hardback monograph includes personal reflections about his pictures by the artist and an introduction by Dr Elisabeth Reissner, Lecturer in Conservation and Technology at the Courtauld, London.

Gallery Director Judi Green comments:

“Mark’s work has a timeless quality that resonates deeply with collectors and art enthusiasts. This new exhibition and monograph reaffirms his remarkable ability to balance abstraction and observation, breathing life into the surfaces of his paintings. The gallery is honoured to continue our journey with him as he shares these powerful works with the world.”
