Cornwall Park takes Best in England Title

8 May 2017

The Trethem Mill Touring Park in St Just-in-Roseland has been named as England's top holiday park at the VisitEngland Awards for Excellence 2017.

This follows on from their earlier Gold success at both the Cornwall and Southwest Tourism awards.

Despite facing some very tough competition the family-run business beat around 3000 other parks to take the gold award in the holiday park category of the competition.

The awards were held during afternoon tea at the world famous Palm Court restaurant at the Hilton Waldorf hotel in London. The glittering ceremony was hosted and presented by Sue Perkins.

The Park is owned by Ian & Jane Akeroyd, their son Jake and Ian’s father Derek. The family are all involved in the running of the Park along with Theo Forman who has joined the team full-time. This year they are celebrating their 25th anniversary at Trethem Mill, having moved to the Park in 1992.

Based on the Roseland Peninsula the park has won a wide and loyal following from holidaymakers in search of peace and tranquillity. Set in 12 acres of landscaped grounds, it provides generously spaced pitches with views over the surrounding countryside for touring caravans, motorhomes and tents.

Caring for the natural environment has led to Trethem Mill receiving the prestigious David Bellamy Conservation award at its top gold level. The Park has also been awarded the VisitEngland Gold award for exceptional quality and service beyond the usual 5-star rating.

Jane said that winning the overall title of best park in England was a fantastic achievement. "Providing a warm welcome and a friendly and relaxing atmosphere in which people can enjoy their stays has always been high on our list of priorities. Hospitality and quality of service also form two important criteria in the VisitEngland awards, so naturally we are delighted that the judges were impressed with what we've created here. We hope our award will also benefit other Cornwall tourism businesses by highlighting what a wonderful part of the world this is to enjoy a holiday" she said.
